Although the last 12 months have been incredibly difficult for many, it has been wonderfully reassuring to see the old adage – that a crisis can bring out the best in people – still holds true. When lockdown hit, for the vast majority thoughts immediately turned to those less fortunate than themselves, and communities rallied to support the isolated, hungry and displaced. The Country Food Trust community has been a shining example of this, and the last year really has been quite an extraordinary one for the charity.
In January 2020 we had just delivered our 500,000th meal – quite an achievement at the time – but the arrival of the pandemic saw a monumental change in pace and, following the unprecedented response to our COVID Appeal in March, an additional one million meals were produced and delivered in record time. The recent Winter Appeal brought our year to a close on a high and we are delighted to be able to report that this week we have passed the astonishing 2 million meals delivered milestone!
We would not have been able to achieve any of this without the generosity of our amazing supporters and we really cannot thank you enough.
And whilst we celebrate the number of meals we have been able to produce and distribute to those in need, we do not forget what these numbers really signify – the sad truth that more and more people are experiencing the harsh realities of food poverty in the UK. There is still much work to be done, but with your help we aim to be there for those who, through no fault of their own, will find it difficult to feed themselves and their families in the coming months and years.
