In one of the most affluent towns in the Cotswold there are sadly homeless people sleeping rough and the figures appear to be rising. The Country Food Trust has been providing our nutritious and delicious Country Casserole and Country Curry to The Big Yellow Bus Project which has been set up by Gerry Watkins to help the rough sleepers in Cirencester.
Gerry acquired the double decker bus and converted it to provide warm, comfortable sleeping upstairs and basic cooking facilities with a wood burning stove on the lower deck. The ambient pouches have proved very popular as they can be quickly heated up on the stove and don’t need to be kept in a refrigerator prior to use.
Any homeless person using the bus must be signed up to a rehabilitation course and Gerry was delighted to let us know of two successful stories where a young man and a middle aged man have turned their lives around and are now safely housed and back in employment. The Big Yellow Bus Project is hoping that more businesses and organisations can support its cause so that more buses can be provided for other areas around Wiltshire and Gloucestershire.
