It is disheartening to learn that amidst the prevailing cost of living crisis, there are instances where some military personnel have been compelled to turn to foodbanks for assistance. As reported in ‘Chaplaincy Analysis of Whole Force Morale 2022’, members from RAF Coningsby, RAF Benson, RAF Brize Norton are reporting the highest users of foodbanks.
An anonymous quote in the report read: “The foodbank is popular,” with the adjoining footnote highlighting: “Foodbank use is reported across a majority of units, but nowhere is yet reporting widespread use.”
SJ Hunt CEO of The Country Food Trust commented: “This latest news continues to highlight the impact the cost of living crisis has had across the country in all sectors of the community. It is a sad reality that numerous individuals and families up and down the country including those that are both former and current military personnel are affected.”
This highlights the importance of the work of The Country Food Trust, to date we have donated over 167,000 nutritious meals for free in support of armed forces around the UK.
