The Country Food Trust (CFT) and Ardgay Game, a distinguished Scottish wild venison and game supplier, have united to address the pressing issue of food insecurity by providing high-protein, nutritious venison-based meals to individuals and families in need throughout the Highlands and beyond. This partnership represents a significant step towards alleviating hunger and promoting healthy eating in the region.
While the CFT has been successfully operating in southern regions, the charity is now expanding its reach to the Scottish borders and the Highlands. Relying on generous donations of deer carcasses from estates and the pro bono efforts of game processors, the Trust skilfully transforms venison mince into ambient pouches of venison Bolognese, with a 12-month shelf life. These pouches serve as a vital source of nutrition for an increasing number of individuals and families experiencing food poverty.
Ardgay Game is proud to announce its contribution to this impactful initiative by donating 300kg of minced venison. This generous donation will result in approximately 2,400 pouches of venison Bolognese, which will be distributed locally to food banks and community kitchens. By providing high-quality venison, Ardgay Game aims to address nutritional deficiencies and ensure that those facing food insecurity have access to wholesome and nourishing meals.
To sustain this important endeavour, The Country Food Trust is actively seeking additional donations and deer carcasses, which will be processed free of charge at the Ardgay Game site in Bonar Bridge. Meals created from the donated deer in the Highlands will be returned to benefit local communities, fostering a self-sustaining cycle of support.
